At IBC2013 ATTO Technology announced full Thunderbolt interoperability and certification with Windows 7 and 8 for its line of Thunderlink and ThunderStream storage connectivity products. Wayne Arvidson, Vice President of Marketing at ATTO demonstrated to Broadcast Engineering how ThunderStream can connect a SAS RAID to an HP laptop via Thunderbolt.
Production professionals have been restricted to the Apple platform for Thunderbolt support, but with the release of Thunderbolt on HP products, and with more PC manufacturers joining the Thunderbolt community, the interface is becoming more popular with video shooters and editors.
Thunderbolt is more than just a link to external hard drives, but allows the PCIe bus to be extended outside the laptop. ATTO supports daisy-chaining of Thunderbolt connections, with a DisplayPort monitor being a typical end to a daisy-chain, providing a full size display for a laptop NLE.
"Our 25 year track record of developing ground breaking innovations has helped revolutionize workflow in the media and entertainment market," said Wayne Arvidson, Vice President of Marketing at ATTO Technology. "IBC is the ideal venue for ATTO to illustrate why we are the leading provider of workflow solutions utilized by the leading Media and Entertainment companies."
