DPA Microphones has unveiled the WINDPAC, a light, weatherproof wind shield for location recording.
Developed in close consultation with a Danish expert in location sound, the DPA WINDPAC is fully wind- and water-resistant and simple to operate.
Composed of two components -a shock-mount and a collapsible wind shield- the WINDPAC is unique in a number of ways. The shock-mount cradle is universal and can be used with any microphone without requiring numerous fittings.
It has elastic straps that can be adjusted according to the weight of the microphone in use so that the mic is supported at the right level within the wind shield. The shock-mount itself is suspended on four pins providing an excellent damping effect by absorbing shock from any external disturbances.
The collapsible zeppelin-like wind shield is made from an innovative fabric which blocks wind noise in gusts of up to 70 mph while allowing accurate sound reproduction and audio transparency. Only one layer of this water-resistant fabric is needed to shield a mic from the strongest gusts.
