IBC opens with expectations and great anticipation

IBC2005 opens today in Amsterdam with a sense of anticipation that the conference may provide insight into some of the most urgent issues facing the broadcast industry.
The conference plans to address digital terrestrial broadcasting, service for alternative distribution channels such as cell phones and other mobile devices, and content and rights management and protection.
The convention promises to deliver valuable perspective on these and other pressing matters through the point of view of various industry leaders with specific expertise. Each day of the convention will have its own theme, highlighted by special sessions and forums. They include:
- Delivery to Consumers— Thursday, Sept. 8
- HDTV — Friday, Sept. 9
- Mobile Applications — Saturday, Sept. 10
- Content Production and Protection — Sunday, Sept. 11
- D-Cinema — Monday, Sept. 12
The exhibit floor will feature more than 1000 companies showing their latest technologies. This year, more than 200 new exhibitors will participate.
As the show opens, all eyes will be on attendance. It is unclear whether the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the United States will impact the total. Convention organizers were anticipating more than 40,000 people to attend the show.
