Omneon Video Networks has announced that CNBC Europe has deployed an Omneon Spectrum media server system for streamlined transmission of all content for NBC
Universal's Sci-Fi channel.
The new system, installed at CNBC Europe's London facility, plays out movies, interstitials, commercials and programming for broadcast across the United Kingdom to the 8 million viewers on the Sky pay-TV platform.
The media server provides a reliable, and scalable infrastructure for broadcast playout and storage applications. Integration of CNBC Europe's new Omneon Spectrum system with Pebble Beach Neptune automation has allowed the network to run the Sci-Fi channel solely from a single server system.
The server system currently has 2TB of storage and will expand to
support the launch of additional channels in the future.
