AEA introduces the A440 active studio ribbon microphone

AEA of Pasadena, CA, has introduced the Big Ribbon A440 microphone at the AES show in Amsterdam.

Having the same physical appearance as the classic RCA 44 and the AEA R44C ribbon microphone, the umber grey A440 is hand built to order. The ribbon mic features a flat frequency response and an accurate figure-eight polar pattern down to 20Hz.

Phantom powered, it shares all the pleasing characteristics of the company’s other Big Ribbon microphones such as a fast transient response and no unpleasant resonances. Combining this with active electronics results in a strong, distinctive sound.
