Akamai Technologies rolls out HD network

Akamai Technologies has introduced the Akamai HD Network, its next-generation video delivery offering that delivers HD video online to viewers using Adobe Flash technology and Microsoft Silverlight as well as to the iPhone, at broadcast scale.

The Akamai HD Network supports live and on-demand HD streaming with a personalized, interactive online experience that matches and complements HD television.

The Akamai HD Network is designed as one comprehensive HD network and leverages the worldwide breadth and scale of Akamai’s globally distributed EdgePlatform of more than 50,000 servers.

The Akamai HD Network is a streaming platform that leverages:
• Adaptive bit-rate streaming;
• Instant response to viewer interactions with the video player;
• Open, standards-based HD video player; and
• HD player authentication for all three environments to ensure that only authorized users access content.
