At the recent InfoComm show in Orlando, FL, AKG announced the release of the DMM 4/2/2 automatic microphone mixer. The DMM 4/2/2 uses a processor-controlled digital automatic mixing algorithm and noise-sensitive threshold to automatically create a balanced mix output from four balanced mic/line inputs and two stereo aux inputs.

The DMM 4/2/2 mixing algorithm automatically allocates gain among the system microphones (NOM attenuation) with a special noise detect function and a noise sensitive threshold algorithm that eliminates an accidental switching of the input channels. The mixing algorithm features a “last mic on” function as well as a “best mic on” mode. A new control concept allows users to access all microphone functions via a single rotary switch for intuitive operation.

To compensate for level differences or any other obstacle, the DMM 4/2/2 incorporates a dbx compressor/limiter, which provides clear sound quality to an array of applications. Each channel has switchable gain (mic/line, mic-lo/mic-hi) and switchable phantom power, and every input is equipped with an incremental level control, including LED level and peak hold display. The auto-mixing and ducking function can be enabled and disabled for each channel individually.

The DMM 4/2/2 has an expansion connector to cascade multiple mixers in a bigger system, and a control I/O is located on the rear panel, providing logic in and outputs to control external devices. The DMM 4/2/2 comes in a rugged 19in housing with an integrated power supply unit, one recording output via two chinch connectors and one master XLR output. The mixer can also be remotely controlled via logic in and outs with a sub-D connector.

Each input incorporates a volume control, high-frequency shelving filter, low-frequency shelving filter and switchable bass-cut filter. The main output is equipped with an adjustable limiter as well as a master level control, and all functions are controlled from the incremental controls on the front panel. The mixer also provides a software locking function to avoid unwanted operation.

A Mechanism to Recover Lost MPEG / IP Delivery Data in Real Time

sponsored by: Sencore

In the ever advancing world of media content delivery, MPEG over IP (MPEG/IP) has been gaining popularity for a number of reasons. MPEG/IP delivery offers lower costs, higher bandwidth, greater efficiency, and new application possibilities over the traditional methods, such as: Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and RF networks. Along with the benefits, come a number of challenges. One of the biggest challenges is a mechanism to recover lost data in real-time. This paper will attempt to shed some light on the inner workings of the real-time data recovery mechanism: Pro-MPEG Code of Practice #3 Forward Error Correction (CoP#3 FEC). Read Now
