Outside Broadcast, a veteran mobile production company in Belgium, has transmitted its first 3-D event, the Memorial Van Damme, with the help of up/down/crossconverter and synchronizer modules from Axon — for example, the HXH150, part of Axon’s Synapse modular product line that offers HD, SD up/down/cross conversion and synchronization with side-curtain conversion.
The Memorial Van Damme, an athletics event held in Brussels, was captured in 3-D from capture to delivery to the consumer cameras. The 3-D signals were fed into the mixer, and the right and left eye were processed in parallel.
For a 3-D-ready transmission, the left eye and right eye sources need to be combined into one SDI (HD) video stream. This is accomplished by squeezing both pictures to an anamorphic half horizontal size and displaying it in side-by-side mode, compatible with MPEG transmissions. The Axon HXH150 performed this task together with the required synchronization of the two streams. The HXH150 is also available with an integrated audio shuffler (HXH160) and in a 3GB/s version (GXG150 and GXG160)
The modules were supplied to Outside Broadcast through Axon’s Belgian distributor Diginet BV/SA.
This eBook provides both new and veteran shooters an in-depth understanding of the technology that lies between the camera lens and the recording medium and how to maximize a camera's performance.
File-based technologies have replaced video tape methods for a majority of production and broadcast operations. The worlds of AV and IT are coalescing to create new methods and workflows for media
Video compression, editing and displays is an in-depth tutorial on MPEG compression technology, editing MPEG content and evaluating color video monitors written by long-time video expert, trainer and writer Steve Mullen, Ph. D.
2012 will be the year of mobile DTV. That’s the view of Erik Moreno, who along with Salil Dalvi, senior VP for Mobile Platform Development at NBC Universal, is co-general manager of the Mobile Content Venture.
