The BBC will install a Snell Kahuna SD/HD multiformat production switcher at its new broadcasting facility in Cambridge, UK.
The broadcaster chose the Kahuna switcher as part of a comprehensive upgrade to digital and HD-ready broadcasting equipment.
As the live production switcher for BBC Cambridge's local news programming, the Kahuna will enable producers to control video feeds from the studio, servers and remote cameras. In addition to its use for the main evening news broadcast, the Kahuna will be used with a Calrec audio system to produce short news bulletins.
Kahuna's multiformat SD/HD capabilities will smooth the way for future transition to HD production by allowing operators to mix content from SD sources into HD broadcasts.
