SportsCenter now available in nine languages

ESPN’s flagship news and highlights program SportsCenter is now seen in 136 countries and is available in nine different languages, according to the network. With multiple live presentations on numerous media platforms everyday worldwide, it has become a global destination for sports news and information.

The sports network’s digital platforms also enjoy 1.5 million views via its online and mobile services, and have sold 36,000 ring tones. Up to 105,600,000 people watch SportsCenter each month in the United States alone.

SportsCenter was ESPN’s original telecast on Sept. 7, 1979, and since then has grown into a worldwide multimedia brand with content on television, radio, online, cell phones and more.

Languages in which SportsCenter is telecast include English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Hindi, Cantonese, Mandarin, Malay and Japanese. There are 15 original versions of SportsCenter produced around the world, including the U.S. version. There are 81 SportsCenter anchors worldwide.

About 50 production and news personnel work on each SportsCenter telecast, and there are 3867 original SportsCenter telecasts produced worldwide each year.

Jacked.com offers interactive online experience for Super Bowl

Jacked, developer of a new webtop publishing platform designed to synchronize Internet content with live television, launched its SportsTopT beta product to provide an interactive experience for the millions of viewers that tuned into Super Bowl XLII on two screens. The Jacked platform monitors the TV broadcast and automatically searches for and publishes relevant content to users’ PCs, such as player profiles, stats, in-game photos, videos and news in real time.

Jacked.com enabled users to configure a personal Super Bowl dashboard. During the game, consumers could log on and choose from a catalog of widgets that they could drag and drop onto the screen to create the perfect view. Jacked then populated the user's selected widgets with content from the Web and partner feeds and displayed the most relevant information based upon what was going on in the live broadcast.

Jacked, based in Santa Monica, CA, is funded by Provenance Ventures, Core Capital Partners and Gabriel Venture Partners.

TriCaster streams NHL All-Star Game online

The NHL used Newtek’s TriCaster, a portable production and virtual set system, to stream the 2008 NHL All-Star All-Access Show live Jan. 27 on NHL.com.

The program, which was sponsored by Cisco, preceded the 2008 NHL All-Star Game and provided fans with an all-access, behind-the-scenes look at the activities surrounding the game from Philips Arena in Atlanta.

TriCaster allows a single operator to produce a live show, switching between as many as six cameras with two VCRs, multichannel effects and NewTek’s virtual sets and keying technology.
