Harmonic’s DiviCom Electra 7000 encoders have been seamlessly integrated into the existing network infrastructure.
The Public Television Service Foundation (PTS) in Taiwan has selected Harmonic's MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) digital video technologies for the rollout of the country’s first HD and SD H.264 terrestrial broadcast service. The service was successfully launched earlier this year.
PTS produces and transmits free public television programming to viewers throughout Taiwan via its DVB-T terrestrial network. The new video service, supported by a variety of Harmonic products, allows the network to migrate to HD broadcasting and manage its available bandwidth in a cost-effective way.
Products that have been seamlessly integrated into the existing network infrastructure include Harmonic’s DiviCom Electra 7000 and 5400 encoders, ProStream 1000 stream processing platform with DiviTrack distributed statistical multiplexing, and NMX Digital Service Manager.
By upgrading its MPEG-2 digital video infrastructure with a next-generation H.264 transmission system, PTS has been able to efficiently introduce a higher quality and more bandwidth-efficient SD and HD service for viewers in Taiwan.
