Cincinnati’s WKRC-TV broadcasting from new studio with JVC cameras

All of the Newport Television stations are making the move to HD with JVC ProHD cameras for studio and ENG production.

WKRC-TV, the CBS affiliate in Cincinnati, OH, is now on the air with a new studio and JVC’s GY-HD250 cameras. The station is currently broadcasting in a 4:3 SD mode, but is planning to transition to 16:9 as the station moves toward to HD broadcasting. The cameras allow the station to operate in an SD environment today while having the ability to transition seamlessly with a simple setting change to HD next year.

WKRC-TV, a Newport Television station, is one of many in the independent station group that are making the move to HD with JVC ProHD cameras for studio and ENG production.

Kurt Thelen, director of engineering at WKRC-TV, said the station chose the GY-HD250 camera for its ability to be configured in several different ways. This allows it to be used in the studio with CCU and RCU controls or in the field. Another major concern was the flesh tone detail ability of the camera, which in this case exceeded the stations expectations.

In addition to the station’s daily newscasts, the GY-HD250s are being used to produce two half-hour programs.
