Digieffects debuts 3D Camera Mapper plug-in for After Effects

At IBC2009, Digieffects is demonstrating a new Adobe After Effects software plug-in called Camera Mapper that allows users to simulate a 3D scene from 2D stills or footage. The software allows users to isolate one or several objects, project these objects on a separate layer and pull that layer out of the background, creating the visual illusion of the object floating in front of the original footage.

Camera Mapper was developed in close collaboration with visual effects expert Mark Christiansen, who has worked on several feature films including “Avatar,” “Pirates of the Caribbean 3,” “All About Evil” and “The Day After Tomorrow.”

Christiansen said that Camera Mapper provides an elegant solution for mapping a scene to 3D geometry. It’s compatible with Adobe After Effects 7, CS3 and CS4 and runs on Mac PPC, Mac Intel, Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems.

The Camera Mapper plug-in is being bundled with Red Giant Software’s PlaneSpace application, which allows users to easily arrange and animate 3D layers.

PlaneSpace eliminates the task of managing the individual layers in multilayer effects and automatically creates layers that form cubic, cylindrical and spheroid shapes or complex matrices.
