DPA unveils innovations at this year’s IBC exhibition in Amsterdam

The DPA 5100 surround-sound microphone is among several new products being shown at IBC2009 in Amsterdam.
Microphone manufacturer DPA will debut two new products at the upcoming IBC2009 in Amsterdam, Sept. 11-15. DPA will be in Stand 8.C90 at the show. The DPA 4017-R shotgun mic with Rycote Windshield and 5100 mobile surround-sound mic, in addition to other surround capture components, will be on display.
Playbacks of surround-sound recordings made with DPA products will be featured at the stand along with DPA surround mics and accessories. The recordings were made using DPA’s S5 and S3 surround mounts, together with the recently introduced 5100 mobile surround-sound microphone for the broadcast market. Compact, robust and easy to set up, the 5100 is designed to withstand adverse weather and environmental conditions while conveying the ambience and space of location recording.
Other DPA surround products include the carefully matched 5006, 5015 and 5006-11 surround kits, consisting of five 4006-TL transformerless omni mics (DPA 5006), five 4015-TL transformerless wide cardioid mics (DPA 5015) and three 4006-TL with two 4011-TL cardioid microphones (5006-11), together with accessories such as acoustic pressure equalizers and shock mounts.
DPA designed the 4017-R shotgun mic with Rycote Windshield in conjunction with Rycote. This new strong suspension and windshield solution has been designed specifically to take the DPA 4017 shotgun mic’s compact size and lightweight into consideration. The unit consists of the 4017 shotgun mic with XLR cable and DPA windscreen in combination with these Rycote accessories: the 330mm Windshield 2; fur windjammer; suspension mount; and XLR holder.
The DPA 4017-R enables the capture of clear, directional sound, regardless of the weather and environmental conditions, and IBC visitors are being given the opportunity to win one. To enter, participants need to visit the DPA stand and have their badges scanned. The winner will be contacted directly after the show.
DPA is putting its broadcast-specific product range to good use at the show. A journalist will be making hourly broadcasts from the stand using DPA broadcast mics including the 4017-R and the 4080 cardioid lavalier.
