Facilis TerraBlock 4.1 includes crossplatform Ethernet connectivity

Within the latest (4.1) release, standard 1Gb/s Ethernet clients can access Facilis Virtual Volumes in multiuser write mode (file level) directly, without the need for a bridge server.

Facilis Technology, a provider of shared media storage technology, has updated its TerraBlock 4.1 with direct Ethernet support for Windows and OSX. The new release represents the latest deployment of the Facilis shared file system, first shipped for Windows fibre channel clients in June 2009.

Within the latest (4.1) release, standard 1Gb/s Ethernet clients can access Facilis Virtual Volumes in multiuser write mode (file level) directly, without the need for a bridge server. Ethernet connectivity removes the need for client-side hardware upgrades and expensive fibre channel infrastructure for clients using compressed HD or SD video. This feature set can be used in conjunction with 8Gb/s fiber channel connectivity on the same network, and even the same virtual volume.

Through use of traditional single-user write mode, TerraBlock provides HD 4:4:4 and 2K DPX playback simultaneously with collaborative multiuser write project and media-sharing capabilities. Volumes may be designated as single- or multiuser write for the ideal combination of performance and workflow.

TerraBlock 4.1 is planned for release in the early fourth quarter, followed by the OSX fiber channel release in late fourth quarter.
