Pro-Bel Cifer converts signals for TV Globo
Brazil’s TV Globo is using Cifer technology from Pro-Bel’s Vistek range to handle the signal conversion requirements for its Beijing 2008 Olympic Games coverage. More than a dozen units are being used to convert the 1080i/50 and 625-line signals in China to 1080i/59.94 and 525-line signals used in Brazil.
Globosat, a content provider from same the same group as TV Globo, has bought two Cifers, which are now deployed in Beijing and another 14 in Rio de Janeiro.
Cifer is based on Pro-Bel’s advanced algorithms for format conversion and Digital Vision’s motion estimation technology, facilitating pixel-accurate estimations and high-quality conversions. The unit can convert between any SD standard and between the primary HD standards. It can also convert from SD to HD and HD to SD with the resulting pictures being virtually indistinguishable from the original.

Digital Rapids, ViewCast help CCTV.com stream live Olympic coverage online
CCTV.com the online division of China Central Television (CCTV), has deployed advanced webcasting technology from Digital Rapids and Viewcast to enable live streaming of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing to the CCTV.com Web site.
Digital Rapids has provided encoding, live streaming and management systems. A total of 100 DRC-Stream encoding and streaming solutions will be used to capture and encode video feeds into live Web streams for the CCTV.com Web site and partner Internet operators. The Digital Rapids Broadcast Manager live encoder management software is also being used for centralized management, monitoring and control of multiple DRC-Stream systems.
ViewCast's Osprey-530 digital video capture cards with SimulStream technology are installed throughout CCTV.com's broadcasting headquarters in downtown Beijing. Each Olympic event has its own dedicated Osprey-530 card, which takes the live video feed from the broadcast and processes it for encoding in all of the most common streaming formats for Internet and wireless users.

EBU distributes content with TANDBERG Television encoders
TANDBERG Television is providing a variety of its MPEG-2 video compression technologies to the European Broadcast Union (EBU) for the delivery of HD footage from the 2008 Olympic Games.
Live Olympics coverage will be distributed to all EBU members over both satellite and fiber networks using a range of TANDBERG Television encoders and professional receivers. The system supports the latest DVB-S2 standard and efficiently manages bandwidth for the most cost-effective delivery of the content.
