Looking to replace a redundant process that saw in-house creative services having to copy files from one editing suite to another, FOX Sports Florida has installed a shared storage solution from Small Tree Communications. The system has improved FOX Sports Florida’s workflow among the four editing suites used by the department.

Small Tree provided FOX Sports Florida with a bundled Ethernet solution that provides full Fibre Channel performance. Tied to four existing Apple Mac Pro workstations in FOX’s Sunrise, FL, facility, Small Tree’s Edge-corE ES4524D, a 24-port GigE switch, along with its PEG4, a four-port Ethernet card, were installed. This solution easily handles the bandwidth requirements of Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Maya running simultaneously across the four editing suites.

The installation was completed by Bob Zelin, an independent video engineer with more than 30 years experience in the TV industry. He said post-production facilities are recognizing the cost and performance benefits in installing a shared-storage solution as opposed to traditional SAN technology.

Small Tree Communications designs and manufactures easy-to-install, cost-effective networking and shared-storage products for professional video and audio editors using Mac OS X workstations.
