Holophone introduces two new surround mics at IBC2008

Holophone introduced two new products at the recent IBC2008 in Amsterdam. The H2-5.1 provides the power and audio quality of the H2-PRO in an affordable 5.1 package, while the H5-X is a high-end 5.0 surround microphone.

Ideal for productions solely requiring professional, discrete 5.1 surround recording, the H2-5.1 is based on the H2-PRO. It features six DPA microphones arranged to correspond with the typical 5.1 speaker setup, allowing the H2-5.1 to capture, from a single point, an accurate 5.1 surround recording with no signal manipulation. The mic’s six channels of audio are output to six separate XLR connectors. The H2-5.1 is an affordable way to add 5.1 surround recording to a variety of broadcast projects such as sporting events, concerts and ENG.

For productions that require a more detailed 7.1 or 6.1 format, Holophone will continue to offer the H2-PRO, with such enhanced features as eight XLR microphone connectors, which are entirely compatible with all multichannel I/O devices. It is also compatible with all surround-sound encoding/playback formats (Dolby, DTS, Circle Surround, IMAX, etc.).

Holophone also offered IBC attendees a sneak peak at its new H5-X, a high-end 5.0 surround microphone. Designed specifically with critical recording situations in mind, the H5-X features five high-quality, small-diaphragm mic elements arranged to help capture recordings that have high-spec and a low noise floor. This H5-X is ideal for highly detailed 5.0 surround recordings where minimal background noise is required. Similar to other microphones in the Holophone line, the H5-X captures from a single point for professional-grade recording with minimal setup time.

The H5-X will offer a variety of connection options. Its head is detachable from the multichannel audio snake via a high-quality 24K gold multipin connector that allows for multiple cabling options. The H5-X is expected to come to market in late 2009.
