KVBC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Las Vegas, has expanded the production of its HD newscasts with an order for 18 Thomson Grass Valley Infinity HD camcorders. The new cameras have added a new level of efficiency to the station’s file-based ENG workflow, which includes Grass Valley REV PRO cartridges, USB REV PRO media drives, and several Edius nonlinear editing workstations.
On Aug. 11, 2007, KVBC began televising its local news in HD by upconverting SD footage shot in the field. The station currently broadcasts six hours of live news coverage each weekday plus five hours of live news coverage each weekend for a total of 35 hours of HD news each week.
As the first camcorder to use removable-storage disks and professional solid-state memory as the recording and playback media in the same device, the Infinity Digital Media Camcorder provides a choice of HD and SD video formats and standards that are selectable within the camera using three CMOS (Xensium) 2/3in imagers. This includes advanced image processing and a full 1920 x 1080 active-pixel matrix.
The camcorder is ideal for multiformat acquisition and stations migrating from SD to HD, giving them a choice of compression schemes, including DV25, JPEG2000 and MPEG-2.For more information, visit www.thomsongrassvalley.com.
