LDI 2008 marks North American introduction of JBL VerTec DP Series

At the recent LDI show in Las Vegas, JBL showed the full-size DP Series of VerTec line array loudspeakers for the professional tour/rental and performance venue markets. The VerTec VT4889ADP is a full-range, high-directivity line array element, while its companion piece, the VT4880ADP, is a long-excursion arrayable subwoofer. Both models are integrated audio systems featuring JBL DrivePack technology, integrating Crown amplification and dbx signal processing.

The new VerTec models have already been fielded for a variety of applications and events, including last spring’s general session of the NAB convention in Las Vegas and the La Fiesta Del Pueblo Cinco de Mayo music festival at San Diego’s Del Mar Fairgrounds’ outdoor grandstand. For the LDI convention, a system was selected for use by StagePro for the Live Design Awards ceremony at the Apex mobile stage.

The VT4889ADP is a three-way, full-size line array element fitted with two 15in low-frequency transducers, four 8in midrange components and three 1.5in neodymium compression drivers with beryllium diaphragms. It weighs 205lb, and each unit is capable of delivering 143dB SPL maximum output (1m).

The VT4880ADP is a dual 18in arrayable subwoofer designed to complement the VT4889ADP. It is fitted with two model 2269G long-excursion, low-frequency transducers. It delivers 137dB SPL (1m), weighs just 220lb and can be coupled with VT4889ADPs, suspended in stand-alone arrays or ground-stacked as required.

The available JBL DrivePack DP-3 module features Crown’s exclusive BCA (Balanced Current Amplification) technology. The units include an auto-sensing universal power supply and a fan-free passive cooling design. The three-channel DP-3 offers a rated output power of 6000W peak, 3000W continuous (at load) for the VT4889ADP and 6900W peak, 3500W continuous for the VT4880ADP subwoofer.

The standard input module from dbx features analog audio inputs, dbx’s Type IV analog-to-digital conversion circuitry and onboard DSP technology, including bandpass limiting, pre-equalization filters and automatic self testing. Optional networked DPAN (analog audio) and DPCN (CobraNet-compatible digital audio) input modules from Crown allow these new full-size models to link seamlessly into Harman Professional’s HiQnet system.
