Front Porch Digital announced that the Newseum, a national museum dedicated to the history of news, has selected its DIVArchive system to manage digital content.

Located adjacent to the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the Newseum has five edit suites and two production studios used for broadcasts.  Newseum relies on Artesia asset management, which was designed with management of hard assets such as museum artifacts.

DIVArchive is a hardware and software solution that knits together a unified system to manage and move media throughout its entire lifecycle, from ingest and production to long-term preservation.  DIVArchive’s open architecture enabled the smooth integration with Artesia, which is also directing Thomson Grass Valley K2 servers, NexSan STATboy nearline storage and a Sun SL500 digital tape library.

Among other things, Newseum producers and editors will use the DIVArchive system’s partial-restore function to retrieve specific segments of an entire program, on a frame-by-frame basis.
