Omneon Spectrum supports Sci-Fi Channel playout for CNBC Europe

Omneon Video Networks has announced that CNBC Europe has deployed an Omneon Spectrum media server system for streamlined transmission of all content for NBC Universal's Sci-Fi channel.

The new system, installed at CNBC Europe's London facility, plays out movies, interstitials, commercials and programming for broadcast across the United Kingdom to the 8 million viewers on the Sky pay-TV platform.

The media server provides a reliable, and scalable infrastructure for broadcast playout and storage applications. Integration of CNBC Europe's new Omneon Spectrum system with Pebble Beach Neptune automation has allowed the network to run the Sci-Fi channel solely from a single server system.

The server system currently has 2TB of storage and will expand to support the launch of additional channels in the future.
