Popwire introduced Ingest Engine, a solution for moving tape-based content to the digital workflow at NAB2006.
Ingest Engine is a client/server solution, meaning that several clients can work with importing and storing media on one central server that also is connected to the tape player and where the actual importing takes place.
Ingest Engine handles MPEG-2, DV, MPEG-4 proxy, PBF or uncompressed 4:2:2 formats. It supports VTR control via the standard RS-422 remote protocol. Each server can handle one video adapter, and Ingest Engine currently supports the AJA Io series of video capture units.
