Satellite broadcaster Al-Majd selects Philips CryptoWorks for CA deployment

Al-Majd Satellite Broadcasting has signed a contract to acquire a CryptoWorks conditional access system from CryptoTec, a Royal Philips Electronics business unit.

Al-Majd, a rapidly growing satellite operator, transmits Arabic- and English-language channels from Riyadh, Dubai and Cairo. The satellite operator will use Philips' CryptoWorks CA system in its set-top boxes to protect its content. It will deploy set-top boxes in a special configuration to ensure that its direct-to-home subscribers throughout the Middle East will only be able to receive Al-Majd content. Al-Majd pay-TV subscribers will use a CryptoWorks smart card to access content.

CryptoWorks, a compact, secure and scalable conditional access solution, is specifically designed for digital pay-TV operations and enables subscription TV and pre-booked/impulse pay-per-view.
