Scripps Howard Broadcasting stations will acquire all of their HD newsgathering and studio production footage across 10 television stations with JVC GY-HD250 cameras and Fujinon HD lenses. This tapeless workflow, which includes storing video on Focus Enhancement FireStore disk drives and editing on Mac laptops running Apple Final Cut Pro software, will be used across the company as its standard way to produce HD packages for local newscasts.
The independent station group has ordered more than 100 lenses for six of its ABC-affiliated stations, three NBC affiliates and one independent. The Fujinon HTs18X4.2 BERM lenses with 2X extenders were specifically designed for the JVC HD cameras.
Michael Doback, vice president, engineering for The Scripps Group, said the combination of Fujinon’s HTs18X4.2 and JVC’s GY-HD250U offers an ideal fit for his stations and the type of work they do. He said high-quality glass is imperative for the smaller 1/3in imager to perform at its optimum, and the pictures they’re getting are “superb.”
