Sharp supplies tiny mobile TV tuner for China’s CMMB standard

Shooting for a December 2008 mass production date, Sharp’s new VA3C5CZ933 mobile TV tuner module boasts the industry’s smallest size: 9mm x 9mm x 1.7mm. Intended for the Chinese mobile device market, the tuner uses only 93mW of electricity and complies with the CMMB standard.

Sharp's new tuner module leverages the high-density surface-mount technology that Sharp evolved in developing tuner modules for 1-seg, Japan’s terrestrial digital broadcast format. It should figure as a key factor in making CMMB-compatible mobile equipment more compact while delivering higher levels of performance, particularly for personal navigation devices and mobile TVs.
