Siano tunes in ISDB-T mobile TV for iPhone

SoftBank BB's and SoftBank Mobile's iPhone mobile TV accessory hit the shelves just in time for Christmas last year.

Siano Mobile Silicon's SMS1100 multistandard mobile TV receiver chip is powering SoftBank BB's and SoftBank Mobile’s newly launched iPhone mobile TV accessory for Japan's ISDB-T (1-seg) mobile TV. The accessory is available with new Japanese iPhones and can be added to existing handsets as well.

The device picks up mobile TV signals and streams them via WiFi to a free iPhone application. The two-step approach is necessitated by Apple's walled-garden design.

For Siano, it represents another step of the company's relentless advance into the Asian mobile TV market. The chip also supplies backup power for the iPhone 3G battery.
