StarHub Cable Vision of Singapore has selected Omneon’s MediaGrid active storage system to be the core of its new, fully automated tapeless workflow. The MediaGrid system has already been installed and is in active operation.

"We are basing our new digital workflow on the MediaGrid system because Omneon understands the specific needs of media companies and has given us a platform on which we can optimize our new workflow," said Andrew Ng, StarHub Cable Vision manager of DMC operations. "Not only does Omneon give us the reliability and performance we need, but the company's expertise in file-based workflows ensures that we get excellent support, both before and after the sale."

Offering more than 100 channels, StarHub Cable Vision is a leading cable television operator in Singapore, reaching 99 percent of households. The company is a subsidiary of StarHub, which also operates mobile telephone, Internet and fixed-network services.

StarHub previously operated on videotape technology, so the transition to a digital workflow based on the MediaGrid system yields benefits in reliability, efficiency and ease of operation, besides enabling the cable operator to save storage space associated with tape. Media clips stored on the Omneon MediaGrid are readily accessible and retrievable after a single ingest, in comparison to videotape storage that required manual retrieval and loading of tape into a VTR every time a clip was needed.
