Sprint takes NFL to Palm Pre; CBS plays SMS with ‘Big Brother’

Mobile TV content continues to go beyond "me too" TV, exploiting the capabilities of online and mobile platforms. The jury may be out on the Palm Pre, but clearly Sprint sees value in bringing live NFL football to the new device.

Sprint will expand its popular NFL Mobile Live application to the Palm Pre platform in time for the league’s 2009-10 preseason, which kicks off Aug. 9 with the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, OH. NFL Mobile Live will be available by Aug. 1 and be preloaded on any Palm Pre bought after that date. When Sprint introduced NFL Mobile Live last year, prior to the 2008-09 football season, it set the company's single-day download record.

Meanwhile, as part of CBS' multiplatform campaign around reality show “Big Brother,” episodes will be simulcast on FLO TV, and mobile viewers will be able to interact through SMS messaging. A new mobile simulation game will let viewers compete in the “Big Brother” house as one of the past contestants, playing various minigames for such show elements as the head of the household and power of veto.

Video clips and photo galleries from the show will be available on the CBS Mobile Web site, TV.com and on major carriers.

A Mechanism to Recover Lost MPEG / IP Delivery Data in Real Time

sponsored by: Sencore

In the ever advancing world of media content delivery, MPEG over IP (MPEG/IP) has been gaining popularity for a number of reasons. MPEG/IP delivery offers lower costs, higher bandwidth, greater efficiency, and new application possibilities over the traditional methods, such as: Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and RF networks. Along with the benefits, come a number of challenges. One of the biggest challenges is a mechanism to recover lost data in real-time. This paper will attempt to shed some light on the inner workings of the real-time data recovery mechanism: Pro-MPEG Code of Practice #3 Forward Error Correction (CoP#3 FEC). Read Now
