Vela extends encoding system with 7point7 technology streaming, storage

At IBC2004, Vela and its partner 7point7 demonstrated an advanced new encoding technology that gives users the ability to provide new streaming and file-storage services and applications with a single system.
Extending the already robust capabilities of the Vela Argus MX and Argus Spectrum encoding solution, the addition of a new 7point7 DVB/ASI plug-in allows operators to stream MPEG-2 directly to air — over satellite or cable — and create a simultaneous storage file in Windows Media V.9, Ligos MPEG-1 or RealNetworks G2 formats.
This combination of streaming and storage capability greatly increases the ability of operators to provide broadcast services and related Internet-based, on-demand applications with only one system.
The 7point7 DVB/ASI plug-in comes as a half-unit PCI DVB/ASI transmitter card with software or can be directly installed in Vela's MediaAdvantage system. The output stream conforms to the DVB standard and DVB/ASI output is available on two BNC connectors. The 7point7 plug-in can also be used to stream previously encoded material and has an additional latency of less than 40 milliseconds.
