Abertis Telecom runs mobile TV network for Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

Abertis Telecom, one of Spain’s largest infrastructures and telecommunications services providers, demonstrated at last week’s Mobile World Congress a DVB-H mobile TV service, broadcasting live channels to handsets throughout the show.

To broadcast the channels, which included the exhibition’s official TV station, Abertis used a full range of Thomson mobile TV solutions, including Opal DVB-H encapsulators, ViBE mobile TV encoders, SmartVision mobile TV service platforms and a Jade electronic service guide generator.

In addition to the broadcast of free-to-air channels, Thomson demonstrated its management of pay-per-view TV using content access security systems from four different providers — Irdeto, Nagravision, NDS and Viaccess — using simulcrypt technology. Simulcrypt allows a network provider to simultaneously broadcast pay-to-view content to a variety of handsets using different content protection standards such as OMA-BCAST and the Open Security Framework.
