Freescale announces i.MX21 multimedia processor support for Express Logic ThreadX RTOS

Express Logic’s ThreadX real-time operating system (RTOS) now supports Freescale Semiconductor’s i.MX27 multimedia applications processor, allowing i.MX27 developers to incorporate support for high-resolution video on mobile devices.

The iMX27, derived from Freescale’s i.MX21 processor and based on the ARM926EJ- S Core, features an H.264 hardware codec for DI high-resolution video processing, along with Ethernet 10/100 MAC security and plug-and-play connectivity. ThreadX is a royalty-free RTOS, ideal for such high-volume devices as mobile phones running high-resolution video-based applications.

A free evaluation version of ThreadX and a demonstration program in source code form are available for developers planning to use the iMX27 processor in embedded applications.
