Hong Kong’s TVB to add MHEG-5 interactivity as part of DTT launch

Hong Kong broadcaster Television Broadcast Limited (TVB) will use MHEG-5 as the middleware for its imminent digital terrestrial launch.

TVB supplies a range of free-to-air and pay-TV services. DTT services will officially launch on Dec. 31, according to IMPALA, the International MHEG Promotion Alliance. MHEG-5 was originally developed and standardized by ISO in the mid-1990s as part of the DAVIC standardization effort to support interactivity and navigation for video-on-demand services.

TVB’s DTT rollout will deliver HD picture quality, interactive services, such as electronic program guide (EPG), headline news, weather and online interactive services, such as voting and shopping.
