A new report from research firm Analysys has deemed two mobile TV initiatives part of the world’s top 10 non-voice mobile services.
In the report, “The World's Top 10 Non-Voice Services for Mobile Operators,” Analysys noted the success of 3’s 3G mobile TV and video streaming service in the UK and its DVB-H mobile TV broadcasting service in Italy. Other types of non-voice mobile services that made the list were T-Mobile’s BlackBerry e-mail and instant messaging service in the U.S. and Vodafone’s MiniCall voice SMS service in Egypt.
Analysys issued the report to educate mobile operators, who were characterized as “desperately searching for ways to increase non-voice revenue” due to falling voice ARPUs, on the types of non-voice services available with the most potential for success. In a press statement issued about the report, co-author Dr. Alastair Brydon said his company picked companies with services “exhibiting high market potential, effective implementation and suitability for reproduction on other markets.”
