RipCode introduces mobile video-friendly transcoding appliance

RipCode is now shipping its RipCode V4 video transcoding appliance, which performs on-demand transcoding for mobile and Internet video preparation and delivery.

The appliance processes multiple video files simultaneously for viewing across a variety of media, including mobile phones, PCs and iPods. According to the company, this eliminates the need for broadcasters, syndicators or user-generated video sites to pre-transcode and store multiple file formats of their entire video library. The RipCode V4, one unit of which generally replaces 10 to 20 general-purpose servers, simultaneously supports stream-to-stream, file-to-file and on-demand transcoding.
