Seven Media General stations go to full-power DTV with Harris

Media General Broadcast Group has awarded Harris with a contract to convert seven of its stations to full-power digital TV with Harris DTV transmitters beginning in early 2008.

Media General Broadcast Group operates 23 TV stations in the United States and has exclusively used Harris TV transmission solutions for its DTV conversion.

The latest project includes digital upgrades of Harris Sigma UHF and Platinum VHF analog transmitters at six stations and the installation of a new Harris Platinum-i digital transmitter at WSPA-TV in Spartanburg, SC.

The stations scheduled to receive upgrades are:

  • WMBB-TV in Panama City, FL;
  • WJHL-TV in Johnson City, TN;
  • WBTW-TV in Florence, SC;
  • WNEG-TV in Taccoa, GA;
  • WJTV-TV in Jackson, MS;
  • WVTM-TV in Birmingham, AL.

The project is targeted for completion by the FCC's Feb. 17, 2009, analog shut-off date.
