Commission Chairman Kevin Martin Jan. 3 swore in newly appointed FCC commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate and returning member Michael Copps for his second term.
Previously, Tate served as chairman of the Tennessee Regulatory Authority from 2003 to 2004. She was appointed to the Federal-State Joint Board on Advanced Telecommunications Services. Before joining the authority, Tate served as an attorney and senior policy advisor to former Governor Lamar Alexander and former Governor Don Sundquist. Her term at the FCC runs until June 30, 2007.
Copps was sworn into his second term, which will run through June 30, 2010. Prior to joining the FCC as a commissioner, Copps served as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Trade Development at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Copps came to Washington in 1970, joining the staff of Senator Ernest Hollings (D-SC) and serving for more than 12 years as his chief of staff.
