Texas Instrument ships Hollywood chipsets

Mobile DTV got a boost this week with the announcement of Texas Instruments’ initial shipments of its Hollywood DTV single-chip solution to handset manufacturers.

TI’s Hollywood chipset integrates a mobile DTV tuner and demodulator into a single piece of silicon. Mobile phones with the new chipset should begin showing up on the market in late 2006.

The company’s first two products in the Hollywood mobile DTV family are the DTV1000 and the DTV1001. Both are intended for mobile phones for the mass market.

The Hollywood chipset supports DVB-H, which is being deployed in Europe, the United States and Asia, and ISDB-T, which is being deployed in Japan.

Both interface with TI’s OMAP application processors to deliver video and stereo audio.
