BigBand Networks has announced that it has integrated its switched broadcast solution with TV Guide’s i-Guide. BigBand and TV Guide demonstrated the interoperability of their solutions at the recent Cable Show in Las Vegas.
The i-Guide integration with BigBand Switched Broadcast enables operators to provide consumers with a common user experience for video services including switched digital video, VOD, DVR and interactive services, independent of the underlying hardware infrastructure.
Switched broadcast is designed to allow operators to add new programming, including HDTV, without requiring more expensive spectrum expansion. For switched video to be successful, it must be invisible to the viewer, meaning near-instant channel change, a typical surfing experience and seamless use of electronic program guides.
