EchoStar's DISH Network enters into VOD deal with Time Warner

EchoStar, the direct-to-home satellite TV provider, has joined with Warner Brothers Home Entertainment to carry the studio's current and catalog titles on its video-on-demand (VOD) and pay-per-view platforms.

The deal, which includes HD versions of the programming, goes into effect immediately. Subscribers can receive the programming with several models of currently installed equipment, including DISH DVRs that are currently the subject of a widely publicized court case.

Although EchoStar lost a patent infringement court case in April with TiVo about its DVR technology, the judgment has been stayed under a temporary injunction. Rather than have nearly 3 million of its DVRs disconnected by court order, it is expected that EchoStar and TiVo will reach a licensing agreement in the near future.
