EGT launches VIPr Video Processor platform

EGT, a provider of video processing technology for digital networks, has announced the launch of the VIPr Video Processor platform. The EGT VIPr allows clients to build a custom encoding solution on an open, programmable foundation and flexible hardware packaging. The EGT VIPr architecture is built on a DSP-based processing engine and is capable of encoding both MPEG-4 and MPEG-2 in the same unit.

EGT’s second generation MPEG-4 encoder, the VIPr4-SDx is the first product to launch on the new platform. Built on the EGT VIPr platform with hot-swappable channel blades and fan trays, and with embedded multiplexing, DTMF and cue-trigger detection, the VIPr4-SDX delivers high-quality video at a low bit rate. The encoder features optional digital program insertion, variable bit rate, forward error correction and MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 transcoding.

The VIPr4-SDX is packaged in a 1RU design. EGT’s pre-processing and pre-filtering algorithms and in-house improvements in MPEG-4 Part 10 (H.264 AVC) video encoding are used in the VIPr4-SDx.
