LIN TV reported that new online features launched on WISHTV.com for the Super Bowl resulted in record-breaking page views and visitors in the days following the championship game. On Super Bowl Sunday and the two days that followed, LIN TV reported nearly 2 million page views, up 600 percent from the 2006 daily average, and 500,000 visitors to WISHTV.com.
LIN TV's Internet VP Robb Richter and WISH-TV's general manager Jeff White teamed up to develop multiplatform products to connect with viewers in the local market. A special section containing news, video, blogs, polling, wallpaper downloads and ticket/travel information was unveiled the day after the Indianapolis Colts won the AFC Championship Game on Jan 21. Another focal point of the site was user-generated content including a photo gallery. WISHTV.com provided daily content updates leading up to the Super Bowl and live streaming of the Colts' triumphant return the day after the Super Bowl.
In addition to breaking online records, WISH-TV set a ratings record in the Indianapolis TV market. Collectively, LIN TV's CBS metered markets, including WIVB-TV in Buffalo, NY; KRQE-TV in Albuquerque, NM; WPRI-TV in Providence, RI; and WISH-TV, outperformed in the 55 metered markets with an average of 44.5/65 compared to the national average of 43.1/63, according to Nielsen.
