The National Television Academy has acknowledged the widespread emergence of video-on-demand (VOD) technology as it bestowed its first-ever Emmy Awards to server manufacturers SeaChange International, Concurrent and nCUBE, last month.
The three VOD providers were awarded Emmys for their work in bringing VOD services into the American mainstream.
SeaChange, Concurrent, and nCUBE have been instrumental in cable operators’ widespread on-demand deployments, which began in major television markets across the country during 2000. By the end of this year, Forrester Research has predicted that over 23 million U.S. cable households will have access to on-demand services.
