Broadcast Facilities Inc. (BFI), the largest independent West Coast-based network origination and transmission facility, has chosen the OmniBus iTX IT-based transmission platform for its next-generation network origination facility.

Owned and operated by Andrita Media Center, the first of BFI's multiphase operational expansion will be the installation of a new iTX-based system, which will be used to launch several networks as they migrate to Andrita.

The Andrita Media Center is a new 106,000sq-ft multichannel HD/SD network origination, satellite transmission, production and post-production media facility located in Los Angeles. Andrita originates a variety of networks, including MGM HD, Hallmark HD Movie Channel, the Tennis Channel, Current TV, SiTV, Universal Sports Network, AFN, the US and UK services of the Africa Channel, and three Tai Seng channels from Asia.

Within Andrita’s HD/SD production facilities are a fully integrated tapeless digital post-production environment including 40 Final Cut Pro HD edit workstations and three audio suites. In addition to channel origination and transmission services, Andrita provides disaster recovery, transcode/encode digital media creation to all major encode specifications including VOD, digital media manipulation including metadata and digital file transfers via satellite, fiber and IP.
