Ixia solution validates 10GigE real-world traffic performance

Ixia, a global provider of IP performance test systems, has announced that its test solutions successfully verified the performance of the 8212zl ProCurve Networking enterprise core switch by HP. The 8212zl switch was tested for quality and performance on both video and VoIP during a commissioned test with Broadband-Testing Labs the week of Sept. 17, 2007.
Ixia's Aptixia IxNetwork solution emulated an enterprise topology with the OSPF routing protocol to fully stress the 8212zl's control plane, and at the same time, with its 10GigE XM LAN Services Modules (LSMs), used 14 Ixia ports that generated 10GigE line-rate traffic to stress the 8212zl's data plane. The Ixia test ports emulated video on demand, VoIP and HTTP as well as FTP applications across 10,000 advertised OSPF routes from 350 OSPF neighbors to measure the end user's experience of overall service quality. This demonstrated a real converged environment running over the switch.
According to Steve Broadhead, founder and director of Broadband-Testing Labs, the 8212zl either met or exceeded ProCurve’s own claims of the capabilities of the switch.
Such a unified test solution is invaluable to equipment manufacturers and service providers seeking to deliver reliable triple-play services over a common transport. Test engineers can direct real-world, application-based and traditional, stateless packet-based network traffic over realistic Internet-scale, emulated IP/MPLS network topologies to determine subscribers' quality of experience.
