NASCAR has chosen Front Porch Digital’s DIVArchive to archive its digitized video content. The deal includes all incoming footage and all past content — an archive with more than 50,000 hours of film and video dating to the organization’s beginning in 1948.
DIVArchive was designed to simplify the process of preserving, managing and accessing content for operations of all sizes. Selection of the technology is part of NASCAR’s transition to a tapeless workflow, which will be completed in 2009.
Each week, NASCAR accumulates about 120 hours of new footage, all of which needs to be managed and archived. The new workflow relies on VideoBank media asset management to move clips via DIVArchive between Quantel editing and a SpectraLogic T950 data tape library.
When the project began March 2008, NASCAR had only 8500 hours of low-res media proxies stored digitally. With eight Quantel encoders running two shifts, five days a week, the racing organization plans to digitize the entire archive both in proxy and in broadcast-quality format before making the move to the new NASCAR Plaza in 2009.
This eBook provides both new and veteran shooters an in-depth understanding of the technology that lies between the camera lens and the recording medium and how to maximize a camera's performance.
File-based technologies have replaced video tape methods for a majority of production and broadcast operations. The worlds of AV and IT are coalescing to create new methods and workflows for media
