SMPTE calls for submissions for the 2007 Technical Conference and Student Paper Award

The SMPTE is calling for paper submissions for the SMPTE Technical Conference and Exhibition 2007, Oct. 24-27, in Brooklyn, NY, and for the 2007 Student Paper Award. Applications for the 2007 Lou Wolf Memorial Scholarship Award are also being accepted.
The SMPTE is seeking proposals for papers to be delivered during technical sessions and tutorials on topics that include:
- Stereoscopic (3-D) imaging, storage, transmission and display;
- Digital cinema, servers, content storage, networks and scheduling;
- Image acquisition for filmmaking, broadcast news, studio production and sports;
- New animation techniques and processes;
- Electronic display technologies, plasmas, LCDs, LCoS, FED/SED, laser;
- Metadata and file management;
- Digital asset management;
- IP content networks, transport, architectures, standards and applications;
- Content security, rights management;
- Digital audio for cinema, broadcast and gaming;
- Consumer technologies, HD deployment, transmission, home networking.
Technical paper proposals must be submitted to the SMPTE by June 18, 2007.
The purpose of the 2007 Student Paper Award is to recognize an outstanding paper prepared and submitted by a student member. The paper receiving the Student Paper Award will be published in the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal. The winner will also receive a full conference registration to the 2007 SMPTE Technical Conference and Exhibition where he or she will be recognized at the awards ceremony.
Applicants must be current SMPTE student members. The paper must deal with some technical aspect of motion pictures, television, photographic instrumentation or their closely allied arts and sciences. The style and format should be similar to that for papers published in the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal. Applications must be postmarked by July 1, 2007.
The Lou Wolf Memorial Scholarship is intended to help students further their undergraduate or graduate studies in motion pictures and television, with an emphasis on technology. Applicants must be full-time students enrolled at an accredited high school, two- or four-year college or university and a current member of SMPTE.
The amount of the scholarship will be up to $2000. In addition, the award includes full conference registration to the 2007 SMPTE Technical Conference and Exhibition in Brooklyn, New York. Scholarship winners will be recognized at the conference.
Applications must be postmarked by June 1, 2007.
