Telecast works with JVC to supply plug-and-play fiber interface to HD camcorder

Telecast Fiber Systems announced that it has collaborated with JVC to qualify a fiber solution along with the company's newly introduced GY-HD250U camcorder, part of the JVC ProHD line. Together, the JVC HD camcorder and Telecast CopperHead fiber interface can be used for HD studio acquisition and other fixed and mobile applications.
Introduced at NAB2006, the GY-HD250 features 720/60p capture and recording for on-the-shoulder electronic newsgathering, or, with the KA-HD250 adapter, for use as a studio camera. The GY-HD250 also offers 24p and 30p acquisition for digital cinematography.
A built-in HDV recording system records HD video on MiniDV cassettes or an optional DR-HD100U hard-disk recorder. The camera's uncompressed HD-SDI output, combined with built-in genlock capability and external time code synchronization, enable it to be used as a full-featured studio or EFP camera for multicamera studio, mobile truck or flypack applications.
Telecast's CopperHead camera-mounted fiber-optic transceiver fits on the back of the GY-HD250 and transmits HD-SDI video to its base station, as well as video, audio, intercom and camera-control data in both directions, all over a single fiber cable. The system also transmits genlock, time code and tally to the GY-HD250 for full live capability. All of these signals are carried transparently over distances that can exceed 5km via lightweight, robust mil-spec tactical fiber cable or industry-standard SMPTE 311M hybrid cable.
