Softimage develops new 3-D game pipeline with EA Chicago

Avid Technology has announced that its Softimage subsidiary and Electronic Art's Chicago studio are developing a new 3-D game development pipeline.

Built on Softimage|XSI software, a 3-D modeling and character creation package, the initiative is designed to meet the growing demand for HD games that play on plasma and LCD HD widescreen monitors.

Electronic Arts (EA) has the largest game development studio operation in the world, and employs a variety of engines, tools and technologies to serve the needs of each of its game and development teams. The Softimage|XSI software is built on a gigapolygon core, which excels in managing the 64-bit, high polygon-count 3-D characters and environments needed in HD games.

The use of Softimage technology will enable game development professionals at EA Chicago to collaborate on complex projects to create a new generation workflow model for creating HD gaming content, the companies said.
