Thomson introduces MXF capability to GV universal interface

Thomson has expanded MXF and Gigabit Ethernet compatibility between its Grass Valley brand Profile video servers and its Grass Valley universal interface module (UIM).

The Material eXchange Format (MXF) is a new standard for file exchange across standard IT networks. This support allows direct file sharing between Profile servers, Sony e-VTRs, archive devices or editing appliances.

The Grass Valley UIM is a transparent device, based on a standard computer platform, which provides an open interface between Profile and Gigabit Ethernet networks. Traditionally, servers have used Fibre Channel networks to send and retrieve files within a storage area network (SAN) environment. The addition of Gigabit Ethernet technology gives Profile servers — including the Profile XP Media Platform and the Profile 6G line — the flexibility to work seamlessly in a IT-based wide area networks (WANs), as well as Fibre Channel networks.
